Act of discrimination

An act of discrimination against a racial or ethnic minority that you have personally witnessed?

There are alot of people out there in the world who discriminate on one another because of the color of their skin or where they are from. Sometimes people do this wthout thinking. They even do this just because the person looks different even tho they may not be. My first child, I had was my daughter Isabella who will be eight this september. Isabella was born Albino. She has white hair, very pale skin and purple eyes. Most people who are albino have one parent who is african american or both parents are. When Isabella was about six months old we lived in Maine because her father was is the United States Navy. Me and Isabella were at the store when an older woman who had to be in her 80's walked up to me and asked me how I could have a child with a "nigger". I was so mad at what was said to me, that I cused out the lady and walked out the store without my things i was buying. I have never been so affened in my life. Even to this day I have never had someone else come up to me and make a comment like that. People just think her father is black because of her being albino but he's also a white man.
That was the only time that i remember someone making a racial comment to me like that, and thats without people knowing the facts of my life. Now my daughter will tell people to stop looking at her and making comments to her. I always thought we would have issues with children looking and talking about her, when in reality its adults that do.

  1. Wow, that is really sad that you all have to deal with that kind of treatment. Glad you cussed her out.
I have found out that for every problem we face to look at it as an opportunity. There is an opportunity that maybe hasn't occured to you both. Maybe you both could turn the tables and respond to people with the point that she was born different for a purpose and that God has somethign special planned for her. Maybe it has to do with this very thing. Maybe this will lead her to make a stand or even speaches to inform people how instant judgement of people is wrong and inaccurate. She can prove her point by then proving her race. What a way to their predudices in in their faces, to prove the fact that they were wrong, to affect the life of the next person they encounter, to trully take a negative into a positive. (just an idea!)

  2. Wow that is pretty bad. Please do not take this the wrong way but you have to laugh a little bit. The elderly say the craziest things and it usually comes from way out in left field. Most of the time it is inappropriate and should not be tolerated but they do make you laugh sometimes. They do not care who is around and just say what comes to their mind. Also that person more than likely grew up in a home that was racist but that was the norm for that time. Now was she right by saying that no.
