Fear and Loating
Im not sure how I really feel about the book. This is because I grew up with a family mamber that was addicted to drugs. I saw first hand how someone acks when they are high off many different drugs whether they were uppers or downer. I saw this person freaking out because they thought they saw things that were there, but really were not there and/or slept all day off of the downers that they were taking. I lovd in the story how he kept acking like he was someone different than he really was, like the officer and the doctor but being high the whole time was not something that i really cared for. Otherwise, it was a very insteresting read for our first book of the class.

Considering what you have experienced with your friend I can totally understand why this book wouldn't really appeal to you in the liking it sense. As Thompson has taught me drugs are very scary things and he was able to do that through the text in a novel so I cant imagine experiencing it first hand. If you look at the bright side of your experience at least you had a sense as to what was occurring throughout the book. With the way Thompson went on with the random things he saw I was completely lost for majority of the book.
ReplyDeleteHello,Yea the book was definately about the freedom that they had to do whatever drugs they wanted and to break the laws they wanted and the disrespect that they showed to others was obvious. They also made the American Dream out to be some kind of unrealistic fantasy that wasn't achievable, but for only a few. The epitath showed that he and his atttorney were escaping, through the use of drugs, the responsibility of hard work and sacrifice needed to obtain the American Dream. We both know the strain drugs can jput on ones life, but anyone can achieve and overcome anything if willing to stay focused on what they really desire in life.
